Mary Ward had the incredible gift of being able to both imagine new possibilities and to take risks in order to begin something other than what had always been. In this way, Loreto Sisters often relocate to explore new possibilities, begin new initiatives or support others where the need is greatest.
Lord, let that be possible to me by your grace which seems impossible to me by nature.
– Mary Ward
In Australia over 100 active and retired sisters live by and share the vision and mission of Mary Ward. They contribute their gifts, sometimes in employment and often in a voluntary capacity, in a variety of areas including:
- Advocacy for the disadvantaged
- Parish ministry and pastoral care
- Social justice
- Social services
- Spiritual guidance
Sisters respond to needs in other cities, remote places and distant countries. Often they are asked to leave significant responsibilities to serve elsewhere in challenging environments. Courage, commitment and generous openness underpin the work and life of a Loreto Sister.
Loreto Sisters work in partnership with colleagues to create a more just world.
