Overview
M. Gonzaga Barry suggested a “hostel for girls who desire to pursue their studies at university” to Dr. Carr, Archbishop of Melbourne, in 1895. In 1917 M. Stanislaus Mulhall arranged with Dr. Mannix for Mr. Mornane to secure a house near the University, Mr. Munro’s property, “Barbiston” in The Avenue, Parkville. Members of the first Community were – M. Dorothea Frizelle (Superior), Mothers Patrick Callanan, Elizabeth Forbes, Mechtilde Farrell, Catherine Dowden, Mildred Dew.
