In Loving Memory of Sr Anne Byrne CJ

What began with a simple message on social media became an extraordinary expression of friendship, faith and our shared mission.

It is with sadness that the CJ Sisters (Loreto) of Australia and South East Asia announce the peaceful death of Sr Anne Byrne CJ (Sr Louis Gonzaga) on 13th August, 2026 in St Vincent’s Aged Care (MacKillop) Hawthorn East.

Sr Anne lived her life devoted to music education, local leadership and in later years, music therapy. Her passion for practice and performance, choir and orchestra saw her participate with great enthusiasm in local orchestras.

Anne’s talent was also expressed in beautiful water paintings, often exhibited and sold to raise funds for SVDP or the work of Loreto in East Timor. Anne enjoyed writing and her work ‘Hither I must come to draw’ explores the many spiritual insights of Mary Ward in the Painted Life.

Her daily commitment to peace, justice and the care of the earth was tangible. Anne’s gentle presence gave witness to a quiet and gentle soul concerned only with bringing her gifts to the service of her God.

May Anne now rest in peace.

Funeral details

Thanksgiving Mass for Sr Anne Byrne will be held at the Sisters of St Joseph Chapel, 13 Havelock Rd Hawthorn on Tuesday, 25th August at 10.30am. The Burial will be at Springvale Botanical Cemetery at 2.15pm that day.
