Loreto Ministries Update
Loreto Ministries was established in 2016 to provide ongoing stability and continuity of governance of Loreto’s corporate ministries, with our Strategic Plan for 2018-2022 approved by the Loreto Ministries Board and the Province Council in late 2017.
Its Strategic Objectives commit to:
- Develop and implement contemporary expressions of the Gospel and Mary Ward spirit;
- Achieve high standards of education and leadership;
- Initiate and maintain ways of offering quality education to communities of disadvantage;
- Build financial and environmental capacity to ensure sustainability and develop strong governance.
Governance covers so many areas of stewardship. This year we have linked in with the Province and MWIA to review numerous policies, dealing with important and complex issues such as child protection and the new privacy legislation.
The Loreto Ministries’ Board has considered issues ranging from 2017 school results to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
In the first half of 2018 Loreto Ministries’ personnel have attended Board meetings of all Loreto schools, led staff retreat days, visited Loreto Vietnam projects, co-ordinated risk-management information gathering, supplied schools with mission-focussed resources and hosted extended meetings to induct new Board Directors and address governance issues with Loreto Principals and Board Chairs.
Our office in Hawthorn provides space to interact creatively with the Loreto Sisters, Province and Mary Ward International Australia staff. With these colleagues, we are committed to a shared mission to transform the Church and the world, particularly by empowering women to seek truth and do justice.
