New Beginnings: Embracing a Vision of Empowerment
As I step into my new role as CEO of Loreto Ministries, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. My name is Maureen Ryan, and I bring with me a background in both accounting and education. From 2010-2017, I had the privilege of serving as the Principal of a Sacre Couer in Melbourne, followed by five years as Principal at Kincoppal-Rose Bay. Now, in March 2023, I embark on a new journey that allows me to fully immerse myself in the Loreto charism and honour the legacy of Mary Ward.
From the moment I joined Loreto Ministries, I dedicated myself to understanding the essence of what a Loreto culture calls us to be. I delved into the lessons and the rich legacy left behind by Mary Ward. It is truly inspiring to witness her values and mission for women’s education being lived out so passionately in each of our schools. Together with Sr Mary Wright ibvm and Margaret Kennedy, Loreto Ministries Board Chair, I have had the privilege of visiting six of our schools, and I eagerly look forward to virtually meeting with Rika Andres from Loreto Nedlands. These interactions have allowed us to connect with the heart of our community, fostering strong bonds and paving the way for a brighter future.
As we move forward, we are mindful of the words Mother Gonzaga Barry left us with: “Leave after you something on which others may build.” These words serve as a guiding light for our work and leadership. The current formation and inception of the MPJP acknowledges our present reality while building upon the legacy of the esteemed Loreto Institute. It is a testament to our commitment to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of education and mission.
When we reflect upon our rich history, we cannot help but marvel at the accomplishments and celebrations that have marked our journey. We honour our Loreto Sisters, who have left an indelible mark on our institutions. Moreover, we are inspired by the transformative education provided to our students. We measure our impact through their growth, service, and success. Equally important are the efforts of our alumnae, who continue to make a difference in the communities they live, work, and serve.
I am truly blessed to work alongside the remarkable individuals who comprise the Loreto Ministries team, Mary Ward International Australia and the Loreto Australia & South East Asia Province. Each person brings unique skills and perspectives to our collective efforts. The warm welcome I have received from them, and the wider Loreto network is heart-warming.
Joining Loreto Ministries at this juncture fills me with immense excitement. I eagerly anticipate the months and years ahead as we unfold the next chapter in our story. With passion and dedication, we will build upon the foundation laid by those who came before us. Loreto Ministries is poised for an exciting future, and I am honoured to be a part of this incredible journey of educational excellence and transformation.
